IP - Preparing for investment or just for the future? - Craig Thomson, Murgitroyd & Co

Prior to any investment a review of Intellectual Property rights is normally undertaken as part of the overall due diligence or assessment process.  This includes identifying the relevant Intellectual Property, assessing the ownership position, status or validity of rights and highlighting any gaps in protection.  As important, the commercial relevance of the rights will also be assessed.

Organisations seeking investment (whether from Venture Capital, government grants or elsewhere) can facilitate the investment process through good preparation and by ensuring that potential investors can not only readily identify the IP rights but can also understand their relevance to the current or planned activities of the organisation. This short session will provide some practical guidance on this important activity and should be of value to organisation either planning to attract investment or interested in ensuring that their IP position has a good foundation.

Craig Thomson, who is a European and UK patent attorney based in the Glasgow office of Murgitroyd & Company, will present the talk.  Craig has represented a number of companies that have successfully obtained investment, including Venture Capital investment, and government sponsored grants.
