Cancer Care Research Centre (Unit 1 & 2)
The Cancer Care Research Centre (CCRC) was established within the Stirling University Innovation Park in October 2003. The CCRC is the first of its kind in the UK as our research is informed directly by the views of people affected by cancer. Working jointly with people affected by cancer and cancer care professionals, we aim to improve future cancer services through linking scientific research with the reality of the experience of cancer and cancer treatment.

The Centre has a team of 21 researchers and six support staff who work with large numbers of people affected by cancer and health professionals across Scotland. We carry out research in the key areas of Patient and Carer Experiences, Symptoms and Side Effects, Older People and Cancer, Cancer as a Long Term Condition, Child and Family. We are supported by a very active Steering Group that is co-chaired by Mr Peter Bates, Chairman of NHS Tayside and Mr Derek Stewart, Patient Representative of the National Translational Cancer Research Network (NTRAC).

The University of Stirling supports a number of our staff while others are funded by other research grants including a large grant from the Scottish Executive Health Department.

We are in the process of seeking funding to build a purpose built Cancer Care Research Centre within the University grounds that will be more easily accessible for people affected by cancer. The Centre will also be a national resource for health professionals, the voluntary sector and members of the public who are interested in cancer care.
