Life Sciences Company Locates On Park
03/08/2007

A young innovative life sciences company, EctoPharma (www.ectopharma.com) has moved its operation centre to Stirling University Innovation Park (SUIP).

Headed by Chief Executive Dr Magnus Nicolson, the company is involved in developing non-toxic anti-parasitic therapies for both the healthcare and veterinary markets.

Both human and veterinary markets are experiencing growing problems with resistance to current licensed therapies and increasing concerns about the toxicity and carcinogenicity of many products currently in use.

The company’s lead product, KindaPedTM, is being developed for the treatment of head lice. It is just about to enter Phase 3 trials in the UK.
EctoPharma, previously based in Edinburgh, has a strong portfolio of other products under development that will be used in the treatment of various companion and farm animal indications caused by arthropod ectoparasites.

The technology for human and veterinary anti-parasitic products being developed by EctoPharma is set to compete in global markets estimated to be worth £1.2 billion a year.

EctoPharma  was recently successful in concluding a £2million round of financing led by Braveheart Ventures Ltd and including TRI Capital, Lochside (International) Investments Ltd, Scottish Co-Investment Fund and existing shareholders.  The investment will finance the KindaPedTM clinical trials and other product development.

Commenting on the move to Stirling University Innovation Park, Dr. Nicolson said: “We wanted to be part of a dynamic bio-science environment. The location is ideal, offering the quality of facilities required in an outstanding setting.”

Lynn Blaikie, SUIP’s Manager of Operations and Business Development, said: “EctoPharma is a young, innovative healthcare company with enormous potential and we are delighted to welcome them to the Innovation Park."
