Have an urgent Marketing Challenge? The University of Stirling could help!
16/01/2009

The Division of Marketing, which is part of the University of Stirling's Stirling Management School, are urgently seeking a couple of marketing focussed projects for a 10-week period beginning in mid-February.

If your organisation may be interested in taking up this offer, please can you get in touch with Professor Jimmy Young: 01786 467383 or e-mail:  j.a.young@stir.ac.uk

Projects run from mid February to early May.

By working with external organisations, the Division of Marketing at the University of Stirling has the ability to offer its MSc Marketing and Retail Management students, working in groups of six or seven, to these clients. The students investigate a particular marketing issue facing that organisation. At the end of the 10-week period, the organisation will receive a written report and a group presentation on the conclusions together with recommendations of their investigation.

The aim of this module is to develop the ability of the students to make marketing/retailing decisions typical of those undertaken within the contemporary marketing/retailing environment.  The module provides an effective mechanism through which to enhance business and university co-operation together with the transfer of knowledge.  It is especially suited to organisations seeking a better understanding of how marketing can create more profitable businesses.

Each project will be assigned to a member of the Division of Marketing’s teaching staff, who will provide advice and guidance that is specific to that project.

Each project will require that students work independently as a team. Typically, 750 hours will be spent on each project.

Clients are free to determine the extent of their own input to the project in terms of meetings with the project group, or its representatives.

The focus of projects has varied, although in the past they have encompassed topics such as social enterprise, e-marketing, promotional activities, overseas business, and new product and services strategies. Financial support is sought only for the group's direct project expenses incurred such as research materials, telephone, postage, printing, travel and subsistence away from Stirling etc. Project budgets have typically fallen within the range of £750-£2000. However, the exact budget level is dependent upon the scale of project tasks that the client is seeking.

The project inputs from the University’s academic staff are provided free of charge as part of their central teaching duties.
